Captain Sonar: Upgrade One

In Captain Sonar, up to eight players take on roles manning a submarine in a fierce battle against rival players. Captain Sonar: Upgrade One adds new elements to the base game, including five new scenarios, two new weapons, eight erasable markers, and different ways to play the Captain and Radio Operator roles.

Unearth

Long ago, your ancestors built great cities across the world. Now your tribe must explore forests, deserts, islands, mountains, and caverns to find these lost cities. Claim the ruins, build places of power, and restore the glory of a bygone age.

Unearth is a bend-your-luck game of dice placement and set collection. Designed by Jason Harner and Matthew Ransom, it plays in under an hour with 2-4 players. Each player leads a tribe of Delvers, represented by five dice (3 six-sided, 1 four-sided, and 1 eight-sided). Players take turns rolling and placing dice in an attempt to claim Ruins.

The game’s elegant core mechanic is accessible to players of all skill levels. High rolls help players claim Ruins, while low rolls help players collect Stones. This opens two paths to victory: claiming sets of Ruins or using Stones to build Wonders. Delver cards help you affect your dice rolls or dice in play, and Wonders can grant abilities that impact the late game.

Kingdom Builder: Harvest

Kingdom Builder: Harvest, the 4th boxed expansion for the award winning game Kingdom Builder designed by Donald X. Vaccarino, builds on this already exciting world of skill acquisition and land dominance. Kingdom Builder: Harvest adds many new strategic possibilities to this already classic game. Farmland, a new terrain type does not have terrain cards. The only way to expand into it is to build into adjacent terrains and spread into the Farmland. Silos on the board allow players at the end of the game to move up to 3 of their own pieces adjacent to any empty land hex next to their own settlement. The Cabin ability allows the use of two Scout meeples that can traverse land, water, or mountains. Six new Kingdom Builder cards encourage expansion.

Vanuatu 2nd Edition

In Vanuatu, you are a Vanuatuan who wants to prosper during the eight turns of the game. In order to prosper, you have to manage with natural resources, rare items, vatus (local currency) and tourists. To earn money or prosperity points, you may also draw on the sand, carry tourists all over Vanuatu islands, or trade cargo with foreign countries.

On each turn, the archipelago expands and you have to program your actions with five tokens. You put one or more of them on the chosen action spaces, and on your turn, you will only be able to play an action if you have the majority on its space. Thus, sometimes have to wait for other players to remove their tokens by playing their actions. If you are not in majority anywhere, you have to remove all of your tokens from an action and give up hope of playing this action. A good strategy lets you block other players; for example, they won’t be able to sell fishes if they haven’t caught them first – order matters! Islands and sea resources are rare, so be quick and take them first!

There is no such thing as a rich Vanuatuan. When you reach ten Vatus, they automatically transform into 5 prosperity points and again, you are poor. Life is hard, but you may encounter ten men to help you; on each turn you choose one of them to increase your benefits from an action. As always, being the first player lets you choose before the others.

In short, Vanuatu is a strategy game of programming and majorities that features development, blocking, and a lot of interaction between players.

This Quined Master Print edition brings you the wonderful original game, as well as the Rising Waters expansion and the extra character of the Governor, with completely new artwork by Konstantin Vohwinkel. The Rising Waters expansion adds a whole new level of tension to the game: Global warming threatens Vanuatu. Many islands are in danger of disappearing under the sea due to rising waters. Players will therefore have to unite to protect the islands by building dikes. However, the interests of one are not necessarily the interests of others.

Secrets

In Secrets, the second co-design between Eric Lang and Bruno Faidutti, players are assigned a hidden team — the CIA or KGB — and are trying to collect the most points for their side. In addition, one or two players are secretly anti-establishment Hippies who are working for nobody. Their goal is to fight the Man and have the fewest points.

On your turn, offer one of two randomly drawn agent cards to another player. These cards are worth points and have varying good or bad abilities. That player either accepts the agent, in which case they score it, or they refuse, in which case the card returns to you, and you score it. The game ends when a player has five cards, after which the teams are revealed; the team with the highest combined score wins, unless a Hippie has the single lowest score, in which case they win.

The interactions between the character cards are the spice of the game, but since the abilities are discoverable during play, the game can be taught in three minutes.

Battle Kittens

In the world of Battle Kittens, you are one of the cat king’s royal cat herders, assigned to draft the cutest, strongest, wisest, and most agile kittens in the kingdom. Three battlegrounds are presented each round, with each randomly having a particular battle kitten trait played onto it. Players begin by drafting adorably ferocious kitten cards, then dividing them into squads and deploying those squads to the battlefields. The squads with the three highest point totals in a battlefield are awarded a number of fish tokens in accordance with that particular battlefield’s allotment. After three rounds are completed, the cat herder with the biggest haul of fish tokens wins!

Netrunner: Crimson Dust

Corporations and Runners. Colonists and Clans. The Martian Colonial Authority and The Free Mars Movement—there are a lot of intersecting interests on Mars, and even more that conflict.

And then there’s the Crimson Dust. The Crimson Dust teaches that human life originated on Mars before colonizing Earth. Its members believe that their leader, Vasanti Smith, is the reincarnation of one of the first settlers on Mars. They believe in Martian independence, and they believe in augmenting human bodies with g-mods and cybernetics that allow them to endure the Red Planet’s atmosphere. They also believe that would-be martyrs armed with Taejo monofilament wire bombs can sneak past the security in most nodes and inflict tremendous damage on their protective domes.

Unfortunately, they’re right about that last one.

The first five data packs in the Red Sand cycle explored the forces that are vying for control of Mars, what they hope to gain from the Red Planet, and how far they’ll go to get it. The sixty new cards (three copies each of twenty different cards) in Crimson Dust look at the consequences of this enduring conflict, which has taken lives, destroyed homes, and left an entire world vulnerable to extremists.

Game of Thrones Card Game: Oberyn’s Revenge

Many lives were lost in Robert Baratheon’s bloody rebellion. Some, such as Rhaegar Targaryen, died in honorable combat on the field of battle. Others, like Elia Martell, were brutally slain at the hands of the conquering Lannister forces. For fifteen years, House Martell has held its thirst for vengeance in check, waiting with the utmost patience. And although the Red Viper’s duel with Ser Gregor Clegane ends in tragedy for House Martell, it is also the catalyst that sets Doran Martell’s plots in motion…

Oberyn’s Revenge, the fifth Chapter Pack in the Blood and Gold cycle in A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, continues the major themes of the cycle and invites you to play out some of the most iconic events from A Storm of Swords. Even as dark events and schemes unfold around you, you can use your gold and the new bestow keyword to gain new levels of control over the game. As new versions of the Red Viper and Bran Stark enter the game alongside characters like Irri and Ser Garlan Tyrell, your vengeance is about to become more vicious than ever before.

Star Wars Card Game: Aggressive Negotiations

Aggressive Negotiations is the second Force Pack in the Alliances cycle for Star Wars: The Card Game. Its sixty new cards (two copies each of five new objective sets) explore the loose associations between the galaxy’s underworld informants and the Imperial Troopers who rely upon their intelligence to crack down on Rebel activities. If any of those Rebels are taken captive, you’ll also find jailers and Droids eager to deal with them.

Additionally, light side players can reach out to the Force alongside Chirrut Îmwe and the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, using their talents to avoid dark side opponents eager to hunt them down, take them captive, and extract whatever secrets they may know.
